Time-resolved velocity measurements in a magnetic micromixer

2015

Abstract Mixing efficiency is lower in passive micromixers due to viscous forces and substantial research effort is focused on designing high performance micromixers. Active micromixers make use of external forces to enhance mixing efficiency. Among these, magnetic forces are popular because they are non-contact and therefore the micromixer design can be kept simple. Laser-based diagnostic tools have great potential in providing multi-parameter information in microfluidics research on mixing. MicroPIV experiments are performed to investigate the transient flow field in a magnetic micromixer undergoing labyrinthine instability. Velocity and interface front information is extracted from a seq…

A non-parametric Scale-based Corner Detector

2008

This paper introduces a new Harris-affine corner detector algorithm, that does not need parameters to locate corners in images, given an observation scale. Standard detectors require to fine tune the values of parameters which strictly depend on the particular input image. A quantitative comparison between our implementation and a standard Harris-affine implementation provides good results, showing that the proposed methodology is robust and accurate. The benchmark consists of public images used in literature for feature detection.

Local symmetries of digital contours from their chain codes

1996

In this work symmetry is evaluated as a numeric feature for each point of a contour, using only the positions of a local vicinity of points. A measurement is defined, named as Local Symmetric Deficiency (LSD), so that the lower this quantity is, the higher the symmetry will be in the local region considered. This approach is very simple and it is based on a suitable manipulation of the chain code of the curve. Its computational cost is very low and it has the advantages of a parallel algorithm, since values for LSD can be computed for each point independently.

<title>Architecture for real-time wood inspection</title>

2000

This study has been realized to improve industrial machines that allow to analyze planks by detecting their width and too important defects thanks to a computer vision system. These machines are currently piloted by software with the help of PCs. The aim of our work is to realize a hardware card to increase the processing speed.

FAST EDGE-FILTERED IMAGE UPSAMPLING.

2011

We present a novel edge preserved interpolation scheme for fast upsampling of natural images. The proposed piecewise hyperbolic operator uses a slope-limiter function that conveniently lends itself to higher-order approximations and is responsible for restricting spatial oscillations arising due to the edges and sharp details in the image. As a consequence the upsampled image not only exhibits enhanced edges, and discontinuities across boundaries, but also preserves smoothly varying features in images. Experimental results show an improvement in the PSNR compared to typical cubic, and spline-based interpolation approaches.

A local level set method for liver segmentation in functional MR imaging

2011

Functional Magnetic Resonance (fMR) is a medical image technique in which a contrast is injected in the vascular system so that blood diffusion along it can be observed as variations of the signal intensity. The uptake variations of the contrast agent are used in early detection of tumorous tissue. For the diagnostic to be accurate, successive volumes must be correctly registered. For binary registration prior segmentation of the 3D fMR data is required. Here we present a local 3D level-set segmentation method which preserves details and edges, along with its multi-scale version which has the advantage of a great acceleration with respect to the single-scale version. Results of liver segmen…

A Trusted Hybrid Learning Approach to Secure Edge Computing

2021

Securing edge computing has drawn much attention due to the vital role of edge computing in Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been adopted to protect networks against attackers targeting the connected edge devices or the wireless channel. However, the proposed detection mechanisms could generate a high false detection rate, especially against unknown attacks defined as zero-day threats. Thereby, we propose and conceive a new hybrid learning security framework that combines the expertise of security experts and the strength of machine learning to protect the edge computing network from known and unknown attacks, while minimizing the false detection rat…

Adapted processing of catadioptric images using polarization imaging

2009

A non parametric method that defines a pixel neighborhood within catadioptric images is presented in this paper. It is based on an accurate modeling of the mirror shape by using polarization imaging. Unlike the most of current processing methods in the literature, this method is non-parametric and can deal with the deformation of catadioptric images. This paper demonstrates how an appropriate neighborhood can be derived from the polarization parameters by estimation of the degree of polarization and the angle of polarization which in return directly provide an adapted neighborhood of each pixel that can be used to perform image derivation, edge detection, interest point detection and namely…

Restoration of out-of-focus images based on circle of confusion estimate

2002

In this paper a new method for a fast out-of-focus blur estimation and restoration is proposed. It is suitable for CFA (Color Filter Array) images acquired by typical CCD/CMOS sensor. The method is based on the analysis of a single image and consists of two steps: 1) out-of-focus blur estimation via Bayer pattern analysis; 2) image restoration. Blur estimation is based on a block-wise edge detection technique. This edge detection is carried out on the green pixels of the CFA sensor image also called Bayer pattern. Once the blur level has been estimated the image is restored through the application of a new inverse filtering technique. This algorithm gives sharp images reducing ringing and c…

Exudate Segmentation on Retinal Atlas Space

2013

International audience; Diabetic macular edema is characterized by hard exudates. Presence of such exudates cause vision loss in the affected areas. We present a novel approach of segmenting exudates for screening and follow-ups by building an ethnicity based statistical atlas. The chromatic distribution in such an atlas gives a good measure of probability of the pixels belonging to the healthy retinal pigments or to the abnormalities (like lesions, imaging artifacts etc.) in the retinal fundus image. Post-processing schemes are introduced in this paper for the enhancement of the edges of such exudates for final segmentation and to separate lesion from false positives. A sensitivity(recall)…
